Maxwell earned both his BS and MS degrees from Florida State University in 1969 and 1971 respectively. Maxwell joined Suemaur Exploration & Production, LLC in January 1990 as Vice President-Exploration. In 2002, he became President and CEO and subsequently became Chairman of the Board in 2008. Maxwell served as Vice President-Exploration for Harkins & Company from 1981 through 1989. From 1975 until 1981, Maxwell served as District Geologist for Harkins & Company in Corpus Christi. Maxwell had previously worked for Texas Oil & Gas Corporation for two years as an Area Exploration Geologist in Corpus Christi, and three years for Chevron as a Development Geologist in Lafayette, Louisiana. Maxwell is a past president of the Corpus Christi Geological Society, and is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists, and the Society of the Sigma X. He received the Outstanding Paper Award at the 1971 Convention of the Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies and in 2010 was recognized as the Graduate of Distinction by the College of Arts and Sciences at Florida State University.
